Alif ("the app", "we", "us") is a language-learning app published by alifapp.co. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
- You can use Alif without an account. Your lessons, streak, gems, hearts and bookmarks are stored on your device.
- If you choose to sign in, we store your account details and a backup of your learning progress so you can restore it on another device.
- The app uses Google services for analytics, crash reporting and ads. These collect device identifiers and usage information as described below.
- We do not sell your personal information.
Information we collect
1. Information stored only on your device
Your learning progress (lessons, quiz results, streak, gems, hearts), bookmarks, and settings (theme, daily reminder time) are saved on your device. If you don't sign in, this information stays on your device.
2. Account information (only if you sign in)
If you sign in with Google or email, we use Firebase Authentication (Google) to create your account. We receive:
- your email address,
- your name (if provided by your Google account),
- a unique account ID.
We use this only to sign you in and to link your progress backup to you.
3. Learning-progress backup (only if you sign in)
While you are signed in, the app backs up your learning progress — lessons, quiz results, streak, gems, hearts and bookmarked words — to Cloud Firestore (Google Firebase), so you can restore it on another device. This backup is linked to your account ID and is stored on Google Cloud servers in India (asia-south1).
4. Analytics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used (for example, which screens are opened and when someone signs in) so we can improve it. It collects app-interaction data, device information (model, OS version, language), an app-instance identifier and an approximate location derived from your IP address.
5. Crash reports
We use Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports, which include device information, the app's state at the time of the crash and a crash identifier. We use them only to find and fix bugs.
6. Advertising
The app shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address (used to estimate approximate location), device information and how you interact with ads, in order to show, measure and limit ads and to prevent fraud. Depending on your settings and region, ads may be personalised.
- In the EEA and the UK, we ask for your consent before ads use your data, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings → Ad privacy choices.
- You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalised ads, in your device settings (Android: Settings → Google → Ads or Settings → Privacy → Ads).

7. Notifications
If you allow notifications, the app schedules a local daily reminder on your device. No notification data is sent to us.
How we use information
- To provide the app and its features (including optional progress backup and sign-in).
- To understand usage and improve the app.
- To diagnose crashes and fix bugs.
- To show ads that keep the app free.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Information is processed by the service providers listed above (Google Firebase, Google Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics and Google AdMob) under their own terms and privacy policies:

We may also disclose information if required by law.
Data retention and deletion
- On your device: uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data. Signing out also clears your learning data from the device (it stays in your account backup).
- Your account and backup: you can delete your account and its progress backup at any time in the app from Profile → Delete account. You can also request deletion by emailing support@alifapp.co from the address linked to your account (see https://alifapp.co/delete-account); we will delete your account and progress backup within 30 days.
- Analytics and crash data are retained according to Google's default retention settings.
Children
Alif is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
Data sent between the app and Google's services is encrypted in transit. Access to the progress backup is restricted to the signed-in account that owns it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version at this address and update the date above.
